Blast furnaces are metallurgical furnaces used for smelting to produce pig iron starting from coke, fluxes, and ferrous material.

Semat boasts twenty years of experience in the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of these plants.

The main activities that the company offers for this segment of the production cycle are:

• Construction of plant foundations (blast furnace, Cowper stoves)
• Construction of systems for quenching and transport of slag
• General revamping of the civil structures and refractory linings of blast furnaces and their components.

The intensity of production cycles are such that plants require a general revamping periodically. However, revamping requires the involvement of multiple companies that must be able to coordinate their activities in a limited environment, and thus collaborate on planning and shared management.

In these complex scenarios Semat is structured with staff and means to deal with:

• Demolition and reconstruction of the casting areas;
• Reconstruction of the internal refractory lining;
• Reconstruction of foundations, water treatment plants, slag quenching plants, and accumulation tanks.
